My name is Archie Hensley. I am the Executive Director of Missions By Modem International (MBMI) and a part of AIM International HIV/AIDS team. I would like to welcome you to our FTP site. This site is one of four ministry resources we are creating as a part of a worldwide network for the collection and distribution of HIV/AIDS resources, all FREE OF CHARGE.

By the close of 2004, we will have the following resources available for you to use. 1) Hard copy publications (for those who do not have computer access). 2) CD-ROM for those with computers, but no Internet access. 3) Website for those who have both computers and Internet access. 4) FTP (File Transfer Protocol) for those who have computers, access to the Internet, and who wish to both UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD large volumes of information.

Currently, this FTP site is under construction. We are in the process of creating a Website and CD-ROM. Our original intent was to keep the FTP site closed until it was totally completed. However, we are already receiving requests for the use of our FTP site. Consequently, we are opening this site, in a very limited form, to accommodate others who are holding seminars and conferences in different parts of the world and need their attendees to download the training materials at this time.

We are a Faith Based Organization. As such, all materials we accept for distribution are evaluated through our intentional faith based philosophical ‘bias’ with high concerns for materials that demonstrate ‘good practice’ according to our ideals. This policy does NOT necessarily exclude secular sources. While it is our desire to accept and provide only the best and most relevant of resources, it is our policy to DISTRIBUTE our resources to ANYONE without prejudice, regardless of religious preference, race, nationality, sexual orientation, or status in life.

We welcome your use and responses relating to our ministry or resources. For your convenience, your suggestions or feedback can be done by returning to the opening page of our site and clicking on the ‘CONTACT US’ link.

Please note the following information that applies to MBMI:

v     MBMI is totally dependent on others for materials to include into the resources we distribute.

v     MBMI accepts materials that are given to us for use FREE OF CHARGES or ROYALTIES to MBMI.

v     MBMI only accepts materials from sources that can give legal permissions for their uses.

v     MBMI assesses NO CHARGES to the contributor(s) for making materials available to the world.

v     MBMI reserves the right (without comment) to determine which materials will be used in or resources.

v     MBMI is totally dependent on the generosity of donors to maintain this ministry.

v     MBMI is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit agency that is able to issue tax-deductible contributions to this work.

v     MBMI is a volunteer agency, still in search of networking partners to assist in this work. Please contact us for details.

v     MBMI is a growing entity and appreciates your support by prayer, technical, logistical, and financial assistance.

Finally, I would like to give you an overview of the current structure of the FTP site, as you would enter the PUBLIC DOWNLOAD link.

1)     Upon entering the site, you see a number of links to information or activities.  Click on the relevant links of interest.

2)     After selecting the PUBLIC DOWNLOAD link, you will note Directories (folders) and documents outside those folders.

3)     The Directories are two types.

a.      MBMI Administrative Directories, which are the first two in the Directory list

b.      MBMI HIV/AIDS Grand Domain Directories that represent a growing list of the most general topics for categorization of materials submitted to MBMI.

4)     Documents are individual resources that are immediately downloadable by right clicking on the document, highlighting the document, choosing to COPY TO FOLDER (on your computer) and downloading the document.

5)     Sub-Domain folder examples (still in development) can be seen in the 1_MBMI Directory are a secondary level for sorting resources within each Grand Domain.

This concludes the basic information for the welcome to our site. For more detailed information, open or download the document entitled 3_MBMI_Site_Distinctives.
